Part 1 -- Interpretation

Definitions

(Rule 1) In these Rules:

• "The Cooperative Association Act" means the Cooperative Association Act of British Columbia from time to time in force and all amendments to it;
• "association" or "EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative" means the EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative;
• "board" or "the directors" or "officers" or "stewards" mean those elected from among the members of EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative for the purpose of fulfilling some responsibility: normally, each member will also be a director and an officer;
• "chair" or "facilitator" means the person who is facilitating a meeting, nominally in charge of the proceedings;
• "general reserve account" means the amount set aside by EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative as an indivisible reserve from its operating expenses;
• "member" or "villager" means a member of EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative;
• "notice" or "notification" or "mail" is expanded to include notification by electronic means, such as email or other electronic communication;
• "patronage dividend" means an amount allocated, credited, or paid out of the surplus of EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative to its members in proportion to their patronage of EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative;
• "regulation" means the regulation under The Cooperative Association Act as made and amended from time to time;
• "resolution", "ordinary resolution", "separate resolution", and "special resolution" shall have the meanings assigned them under The Cooperative Association Act.
• "rules" or "coop rules" means these Rules and all amendments, additions, deletions or replacements from time to time in force and effect;
• "vote" or "voting" means using EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative's rules of consensus, as defined in EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative's membership agreement, unless otherwise required by The Cooperative Association Act.

Cooperative Association Act definitions apply

(Rule 2) Subject to the #Definitions (Rule 1), words and expressions defined in The Cooperative Association Act as they read on the date these coop rules become applicable to EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative apply to these coop rules, with the necessary changes, so far as applicable.

Interpretation

(Rule 3) Words in the singular form include the plural and vice versa and words importing a specific gender include the other gender and eligible organizations.

Cooperative Association Act governs

(Rule 4) If there is a conflict or inconsistency between The Cooperative Association Act and these coop rules, The Cooperative Association Act governs.
