- Not all of the food in the kitchen is for community use. Please ask before taking food!
- Rubber spatulas are not for cooking with heat; there is one that is to be used for tomato sauce only (it is quite evident which one that is).
- All dishes MUST be washed with HOT soapy water. There are rubber gloves if you need them. Add a small amount of soap from the container by the faucet (please re-close the top to keep it from getting gummy and clogging) to a inch of hot water in the right basin. Rinse into same side of wash sink so that you will have enough hot water for the larger items at the end. When finished washing the dishes, please wring out the dish cloth and drape over the faucet.
- If more room is need to put washed dishes, open the dishwasher and pull out the racks. Please DO NOT close dishwasher with wet dishes inside. After emptying dishwasher, wipe up any water residue on the door before closing.
- Please do not put wood or knives in the dishwasher (if used).
- Please do not leave knives sitting in water, it dulls them.
- Please do not leave moisture sitting on cutting boards or wooden spoons sitting in liquid. Wipe off cutting board immediately and put away after you are done using it.
- Please ask if you don’t find what you need - don’t assume you know how to use everything. There are some appliances that have a specific use and operations. Also ASK where things go before putting them away so that we don't have to search for them when we need them.
- The towel hanging on the left of the of the sink is for drying CLEAN dishes, (if needed - dishes are usually air dried) and the towel hanging on the right side of the sink is for drying CLEAN hands. If you need a towel for another purpose, ASK!
- Please put knives blade down in utensil drying holder, to avoid someone getting cut.
- Knives should be sharpened prior to each use. It is very quick and simple. Ask for assistance the first time.
- Do not use soap on cast iron. If you don't know how to clean cast iron, please ask for assistance. Never leave water sitting in cast iron after cleaning. DO NOT dry with a towel. Ask for directions on use and care of cast iron.
- When cleaning up the dishes, please use the plastic scraper (in the container by the dish soap) to remove the majority of food from pans. Then put the scrapings into the compost (silver bucket) or pour into the strainer in the left side of the sink. Then use the scotch brite (green square) to finish . Be sure to completely rinse all food from these cleaners.
- The white bucket is used for scrapes to go to the chickens. Only put fruit (not banana or citrus) and vegetables (not onions or garlic) in this bucket. If not sure, ASK.
- Grease is hard to clean off of plastic containers, so please avoid this combination.
- Please wipe up spills on stove top before they are cooked on. It makes it easier to keep it clean. If something gets baked onto the stove top, please use a razor blade to scrape off as much as possible. Ask for further assistance.
- It you break something, you replace it. If something needs routine care or maintenance, let Carol know.
- Please don't put anything to dry on the "drain board".
- Please be responsible and respectful as all kitchen items belong to Carol. If you don't understand the reasoning behind some of the above requests, please ask Carol and she will gladly explain them.
- Thank you for all the help in the respectful and careful use of the kitchen. If you take care of it, it will take care of you for many years to come! It is always OK to ask first, so that the kitchen nazi doesn't become unhappy.
