This is an interpretative work.

The information on this page is interpreted from EcoReality's official bylaws, as filed with our incorporation as a British Columbia Cooperative Association, or from agreements we have formally made by consensus among ourselves, as recorded in meeting minutes.

In case of a conflict, the official bylaws and/or meeting minutes take precedence.

Authors who provide interpretive works should include {{disclaimer}} at the top, and strive to include links to the appropriate bylaw or meeting minutes.

BC cooperatives can have both member shares and investment shares, according to The Cooperative Association Act, which clearly defines the rights and responsibilities of both classes of shares. There may be different classes of investment shares, with different terms and dividend rates, for example.

Members of EcoReality Sustainable Land Use and Education Cooperative who wish to reside in the village will be expected to also hold a certain number of investment shares that will be equal to their share of the organization's total capitalization. (The Cooperative Association Act specifically states that ownership of investment shares cannot be a requirement of basic membership, but it can be used to proffer additional rights and privileges.)

We also allow minority investment shares to non-members, as allowed by The Cooperative Association Act.
