March 2008

Happy spring!

It's a wonderful feeling knowing that spring is technically here, the days are getting significantly longer and we're planning on planting many things.

Look for exciting news in the coming weeks. EcoReality is about to go through some major changes and once we can publicly announce the details we will!

What's happening at EcoReality:

James, Shannon and Sienna are moving to Salt Spring full time in August. This will be wonderful for them as a family and for the co-op. We expect the co-op to go through some rapid changes this year and having the majority of the members living on site will make for more business (and work on the farm) getting done.

The major discussions right now are about finances, budgets, labour, equity and space allocation and usage. As we all look to living on the same land and expanding the co-op we are delving deep into creating a sustainable foundation which will work for us as individuals and also for the long term goals of the co-op.

Upcoming meetings and gatherings:

Our monthly member's meeting will be at 12:00pm on Saturday March 29. Please RSVP if you would like to attend and observe this meeting. The meeting details are here: http://ecoreality.org/wiki/Meetings

This is also our Annual General Meeting for the co-op. You can read the steward's reports here: http://ecoreality.org/wiki/Annual_report_2008

There are regular potlucks and big screen movie nights on Saturdays. Please let us know in advance if you are coming so we can plan the meals and pick a movie.

May the spring bring renewed energy and new life to all of us.

December 2007

Happy December, and our best wishes for what this season brings you- Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Chanukah, being a hermit.......

EcoReality's newsletter will be coming out quarterly in 2008, and we are also sending out shorter monthly updates (like this one) in non-newsletter months.

What's happening at EcoReality:

It's obvious that the season has changed to winter. The woodstack is getting smaller and the glycerin in the bottom of the biodiesel is freezing making it difficult to brew batches. We were building an aluminum greenhouse last weekend and it was covered in frost by 5pm which was cold on the hands. Not to mention that it's pretty much dark at 5pm now too. We're in the process of digging a ditch through the gardens to alleviate some of the swampy low lying areas. In this swampy area we have the fence posts up to extend the upper garden by the road. All efforts to plow it last weekend ended in the tractor tires spinning out in the slightly soggy ground.

There is much reading and discussing The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. It has simple yet very powerful insights into living in harmony with yourself and others. We recommend getting your hands on a copy.

Upcoming meetings and gatherings:

December's members meeting is December 8th at 10:00am. Please RSVP if you would like to come and observe.

There are potlucks every Sunday and Saturdays are movie night on the big screen in the living room. Let us know if you'd like to come by.

Be well and peace to all
