Mushroom cultivation
From EcoReality
The cultivation of mushrooms in our community will provide a valuable food source for villagers, as well as a source of income.
There is a myth that mushrooms hold no nutritive value, but when we look at the medicinal qualities of mushroom we find that they are instrumental in immune stimulation and also very benificial in the treatment of disease. Reishi mushrooms are used to treat and prevent cancer, as well as asthma. Shiitake mushrooms are used to treat atherosclerosis and prostrate problems, and studies have shown they contain vitamins D2, and B12. A compound called lentinan, a water soluble polysaccharide extracted from shiitakes has been used to treat and prevent AIDS.
The potentials of mushrooms are still being explored, our community has a fantastic opportunity to join in this facinating research and developement.
