Water conservation

Water shortages are a familiar problem to many island residents. The increase in island development equates to an obvious strain on an already strained resource. An ecovillage will help the island by setting a positive example in the area of water conservation. The ecovillage will use extensive water catchment systems and grey water recovery systems, and can also be a venue to stage pilot projects for alternative waste-water treatment (like composting toilets and Living Machines). Grey water will be appropriately treated and recycled. The Ecovillage will also place covenants on any body of water that needs protection.
